Glides For Chairs - Choosing the Right Glides For Chairs

Glides For Chairs

How to choose the right glides for your chairs.

Glides for chairs are an easy, affordable way to protect your chair legs and flooring. There are many different styles to choose from. Finding the right glide for your chairs can be hard to determine. But with the right information, you should be able to know right away which is ideal for your situation.

choosing the correct glides for your chairs

Flooring

The first question to ask yourself is what type of flooring will my chairs be placed on. Is it carpeting, laminate flooring, hardwood floors, or a combination?

If it's carpeting, then the glides for chairs in that room should have a plastic, metal, or nylon base. These smooth surfaces will glide evenly across your carpeting without snagging on any loose threads.

For glides for chairs on laminate or hardwood floors, we suggest you use felt base glides. Felt floor protectors are soft, yet durable. So they won't scratch the surface of the floor. The felt used on these floor protectors is a strong type of material designed for heavy use. You can read more about it in our article on protecting hardwood floors with felt furniture pads.

Type of Glides for Chairs

Next, you'll need to determine the type of glide your chair needs. This can easily be done by flipping your chair over to look at the bottom of the chair glide. If it looks like there is a threaded hole, you can use leveling glides that screw into the bottom of the chair leg. If your chair leg is wooden, you can use nail-on glides. If it's neither of these, try a glide cap. This can snap over the outside of the chair leg to securely latch onto it.

Size of the Glides

Now you need to determine what size will fit best with your chair. If you're using a cap, measure the diameter of your chair leg to find the width of it. You can then judge which size of glide cap will snap securely to it. If you need a leveling glide, you'll need to determine the size of the threaded hole to ensure glide will securely screw in place.

We found exactly what we were looking for! We were looking for glides for our metal chairs from Crate and Barrel that stayed on and protected our hardwood floors. The clear plastic glides fit perfectly and have a nice felt pad attached to protect the floor and help the chair slide with ease.

This company has been great to work with over the years. My orders are fulfilled quickly. I've ran several 5k's on crutches due to a broken foot and they have great replacement crutch ends. Definitely cheaper than my running shoes. Thanks guys.
